The Olson Group, Ltd. (OGL) created a series of “exercises in a box” for the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Each of the four exercises developed focused on a different Alaska-specific hazard or threat, including a HazMat leak at a salmon cannery, a biological agent threat at a school, a truck accident resulting in a diesel fuel leak, and a freight train derailment resulting in a methanol leak. The exercise materials developed by OGL included template Situation Manuals, scenario briefings, Facilitator Guides, Evaluator Guides, Participant Feedback Forms, sing-in sheets, and instructions for customizing all documents to fit local jurisdiction needs. OGL provided printed copies of all materials, as well as electronic copies on disc and USB storage drives for distribution to localities for use across the state. OGL included follow-up consultation services for customizing the exercise materials and executing tabletop exercises at the local level in its contract with the State.
