Delaware Emergency Management Agency Port of Wilmington Hazardous Material Tabletop and Full-Scale Exercise

The Olson Group, Ltd. (OGL) led the design, conduct, and evaluation of a tabletop exercise focusing on emergency planning and hazardous materials response at the Port of Wilmington (1 Hausel Road, Wilmington, DE 19801). The Port Alert Tabletop Exercise, conducted in October 2010, focused on a radiological/nuclear threat and response at the Port of Wilmington and its surrounding neighborhoods.  The exercise brought together the Port’s administration and emergency planners, City of Wilmington Emergency Management, Customs and Border Patrol, and first responders. Port Alert TTX was an opportunity to discuss and evaluate participants’ plans and responses to the attempted clandestine movement of radiological materials through the Port of Wilmington. As a result of the exercise, OGL made recommendations on improvement actions for the Port’s emergency operations plan.
