The Olson Group, Ltd. (OGL) assisted in the 2019 Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Summer Leadership Tabletop Exercise (TTX) was conducted at Atkins High School in Winston-Salem.
The purpose of the 2019 Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Summer Leadership TTX was to examine and discuss local and regional plans, policies and procedures in response to multiple active shooter incidents in accordance with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Safety/Security handbook and the National Incident Management System.
The exercise involved a plenary opening session followed by 10 break out group discussions with 25 – 30 participants each. Each group was made up largely of school administrators and counselors, but law enforcement, fire/EMS, and other response personnel were added to each group to provide first responder perspective regarding the active shooter scenario. Breakout group members discussed their individual agency capabilities; this provided each participant an understanding of what each agency could provide in response to the scenario incidents. A second plenary session was conducted where each breakout group identified areas of strength and improvement regarding their planned response to the active shooter threat.
The exercise was one of a series of discussion- and operations-based exercises delivered in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and the surrounding region as a part of their Complex Coordinated Terrorist Attack Grant Project.
